Virtual Labs – Improved Laboratory Experience
- Title of the initiative: Virtual Labs – Improved laboratory experience
- Goal:
- The Virtual Labs initiative is a paradigm shift in ICT-based education.
- To provide remote access to simulation-based labs.
- To enthuse students to conduct experiments by arousing their curiosity, enabling learning through remote experimentation.
- Context:
Good lab facilities and updated lab experiments are critical for any engineering discipline. However, the lack of infrastructure often makes it difficult to conduct labs. Virtual Labs solve this by offering remote access to simulation-based experiments, promoting curiosity, flexible learning, and deeper conceptual understanding.
- The labs and experiments on the Virtual Labs platform are mapped with the curriculum.
- Mentors are appointed for each lab.
- A workshop is conducted with Virtual Labs to train faculty and students.
- Students use the platform, watch relevant content, and complete simulations.
- After simulation, feedback is collected and discussion sessions are held by mentors.
- Evidence of Success:
Evidence of Success
Sl. No | A.Y | Course | No. of Students | No. of Experiments | Remarks |
---|
1 | 2023-24 | Software Engineering Lab | 208 | 10 | Lab course as a whole is offered |
2 | 2022-23 | Software Engineering Lab | 211 | 10 | Lab course as a whole is offered |
3 | 2021-22 | Software Engineering Lab | 211 | 10 | Lab course as a whole is offered |
Note: KHIT is the nodal center for Virtual Labs. Lab sessions were successfully completed during AY 2023–24 and 2024–25.
Problems Encountered:- The lab experiments are limited to simulations only.
- Some lab experiments are not yet available online.
- Resources: Requires high-performance computers and stable internet connectivity.
